A new The Last of Us episode 1 clip shows Joel Miller and his family attempting to flee the deadly fungus infestation. The upcoming HBO television adaptation, which is based on the lauded PlayStation 3 video game of the same name, stars Pedro Pascal as Joel, a seasoned black market smuggler who has been assigned to accompany 14-year-old orphan Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across a zombie-infested United States to the idealistic militant group known as the Fireflies. The Fireflies want to utilise Ellie to develop a vaccine that might prevent the fungus from spreading around the planet because she has a rare immunity to it in her body.
The Late Show with Seth Meyers host shared a scene from The Last of Us in which Joel and his family are trying to flee the deadly outbreak. This was done prior to Nico Parker’s interview. Sarah (Nico Parker) is visibly terrified when she confronts her father and Uncle Tommy (Gabriel Luna) about the turmoil engulfing their surroundings. Joel makes an effort to soothe his daughter down while Tommy evaluates the matter, putting her mental health first.
The Last of Us video game based its zombie infection on a real-world fungus called cordyceps
A fungus called cordyceps was used as the inspiration for the zombie infestation in the first The Last of Us video game. The fungus isn’t harmful to people, but different strains target particular animals and alter their behaviour, making them slaves to the fungus and causing tendrils to grow from their bodies. Neil Druckmannl, the creator of the game, conjured up a mutated form of the fungus that could infect people and alter their behaviour as well.
Fungal growths start to emerge from a carrier’s head and eyes as the Cordyceps infection takes hold of the host’s brain in the game. This results in the appearance of one of the most recognisable infected species in the franchise, the Clicker, a repulsive creature with growths obstructing its vision and compelled to utilise vocal clicks to navigate through echolocation. The video game sequel The Last of Us Part II added more frightful infected than the first The Last of Us’s four infection stages. Craig Mazin, the co-creator of the HBO version, has disclosed that a brand-new diseased variety was created especially for the show.
The outbreak came on quickly in the first game. The unaware citizens were forced to simultaneously flee the bloodthirsty infected. As the military tried to stop the fungus from spreading, the confusion caused turmoil and a large number of casualties. This Sunday marks the debut of The Last of Us, allowing viewers to experience the tragedy of the pandemic firsthand.
