A recent source confirms that Minx is being picked up by a new network after HBO Max abruptly cancelled the show midway through season 2’s production. The erotic comedy, produced by Ellen Rapoport, debuted on HBO Max in the spring of 2017 and follows Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond), who teams up with a modest publisher to launch the first pornographic publication for women. HBO Max abruptly cancelled the show in December despite glowing reviews and an earlier renewal for season 2, making it clear that it will no longer be available on the channel.

Deadline claims that a new network will be picking up the show, some weeks after star Jake Johnson said that Minx would continue filming season 2 in the hopes of finding the show a new home. According to the rumour, Starz, the network that airs shows including Outlander, BMF, and P-Valley, will purchase seasons 1 and 2. Season 1 will be added to the network’s streaming library, and Starz will be the only place to watch season 2, which doesn’t currently have a release date.

Jeffrey Hirsch, CEO of Starz, comments below regarding the choice to save Minx, “We have always felt this show would be a perfect fit for our brand with our dedication to narratives by, about, and for women. Starz is proud to be the new home for this incredible show that has drawn in well-deserved critical acclaim. We’re excited to welcome Ellen and the talented ‘Minx’ team to the network and can’t wait to bring its passionate fans the second season.”

HBO Max recently got into some trouble with viewers after making some unexpected TV and movie cancellations and removals. The decision by the streamer to cancel Batgirl in the summer of last year, despite the fact that the film had already been shot, appears to have signalled the beginning of this new perilous age for HBO Max originals. In the ensuing months, HBO Max would also axe a number of other programmes and movies, including Wonder Twins, Scoob! : Holiday Haunt, Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical, Legendary, Made for Love, Time Traveler’s Wife, and Raised by Wolves.

These removals and cancellations all occurred in the months following last year’s merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery, Inc. Both HBO Max and Discovery+, the two firms’ separate streaming services, will be combined as part of the two businesses’ merger. Warner Bros. Discovery is permitted to write off projects like Batgirl as a result of the merger in the interest of more comprehensive “post-merger restructuring” initiatives.

Despite the fact that Warner Bros. Discovery’s reorganisation and cost-cutting efforts are still ongoing, it’s possible that the era of widespread HBO Max cancellations and removals is coming to an end with the launch of the company’s new streaming service, simply known as “Max.” Fans of Minx may at least feel secure knowing that they will eventually be able to watch another season of the acclaimed show on Starz, even though many other shows are still in limbo or have yet to be renewed. But it’s yet unclear whether any other projects that were shelved would also find new homes.
