It’s incredible to think that The Last of Us, an HBO horror series, will debut in just one week. The series, which is based on the same-named PlayStation franchise, aims to remove the dreaded video game curse. Through its incredible marketing effort, which hinted this to be one of the most accurate adaptations in gaming history, the series has gained the trust of its devoted following. However, the show also seems to be adding some significant new elements to the already outstanding zombie plot. This applies to Sarah, who appears in the show as Joel’s daughter and is portrayed by Nico Parker. The Last of Us has now teased Sarah’s larger involvement in a brand-new picture.

The picture of Sarah from The Last of Us strolling along the street was released on the game’s different social media platforms. She’s sporting the same purple clothing as the previous game’s protagonist does in the introduction. Before the game shifts to a 20-year-old setting, this detailed the terrible events of “Outbreak Day.” However, the game begins at night and the contagious terror is already underway. Given that Sarah is carrying a bag, the moment in question appears to be during the day, when she is probably heading home from school.

It’s possible that this is happening on the morning of Outbreak Day, which was never depicted in the game, and that the show is giving viewers more of a build-up to the extremely distressing events of the first prologue. Another previously made public picture of Sarah putting her hand through a sprinkler lends, even more, credence to it.

When we encounter Joel 20 years later, he is still being driven by the same emotions that Sarah played a part in during one of the most astounding game openers in history. It will be fascinating to see what her story’s co-creators Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin add to it. Despite their strong bond, we never saw more than a few moments of this engaging father-daughter duo. We don’t know much about Sarah, thus adding flashbacks between the two characters might be interesting. Even Sarah’s iconic soccer photo, which Joel treasures dearly, may be portrayed in the games. Whatever the situation, you can be sure that Pedro Pascal and Parker will emotionally give these parts everything they have.

The Last of Us makes its HBO debut on January 15 on Sunday. You can watch the series trailer down below while we wait impatiently to see Joel and Sarah’s lives in “the simpler era.”
