Tim Blake Nelson has joined the already impressive cast of newcomers for Dune: Part Two, directed by Dennis Villeneuve. Dune: Part One, which was based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 science fiction novel, featured Paul Atreides on his messianic trip through the arid planet Arrakis. On Arrakis, the Atreides join forces with the desert-dwelling Fremen who have been subjected to Harkonnen tyranny, only for the latter to discover themselves in the middle of a violent uprising. As Dune: Part One only roughly covered half of the book, Dune: Part Two, which apparently wrapped up filming in mid-December, will conclude the plot presented in the first book of the Dune trilogy.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Tim Blake Nelson has been added to the cast of Dune: Part Two as a late addition to the lengthy roster of newcomers. Since there are no specifics about his character as of this writing, it appears that his part is being kept under wraps. Nelson recently appeared in the Netflix original films Pinocchio and Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, and he is getting ready to make his MCU comeback as the Leader in Captain America: New World Order.

What can we expect from Dune: Part 2?

Nelson has joined an impressive group of newcomers. Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan Corrino, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot, and Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV are all featured in Dune: Part Two. The actress who will play Alia Atreides is the only other significant character in Dune: Part Two that hasn’t been revealed, and for good reason. The returning cast of Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, and Stellan Skarsgrd will be joined by all the Dune: Part Two newbies.

The second half of Dune: Part One will see Paul (Chalamet) spending a lot more time with the Fremen than he does with the Atreides because House Harkonnen, for the most part, succeeds in their political coup and invasion over House Atreides because Dune: Part One only covers about half of the first book. By the end of Dune: Part One, Paul’s father has passed away, he has broken away from the other Atreides bannermen, and he has begun to live up to the legends and expectations of the Fremen. In addition to featuring strong themes of messianism and environmentalism, Dune: Part Two will simultaneously be a tale of retribution, reunion, and rebirth. Villeneuve expertly captured the essence of Herbert’s novel in Dune: Part One.

It has been “unfilmable” for decades to adapt Herbert’s renowned book, which is today regarded as a classic in science fiction literature. Villeneuve and company’s near-impossible feat is a credit to both their brilliance and the development of filmmaking technology and methods. There are numerous choices for Nelson’s character in Dune because it is a vast epic full of fascinating characters and mythology. On November 3, fans will learn the shocking conclusion to Dune: Part Two and witness it in its entirety.
