The release date for the Good Omens season 2 trailer has been updated by Neil Gaiman. Good Omens, a 1990 book by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett of the same name, was turned into a 2019 television series for Amazon Prime. Good Omens was initially planned to be a short-lived series, but in June 2021 it was extended for a second season due to its enormous popularity and devoted fans. The second season’s filming commenced in October 2021 and ended in March 2022; the show is currently in post-production. Season 2 is anticipated to debut this summer, while there is no set premiere date as of yet.

Fans have inquired on Gaiman’s Tumblr as to why the Good Omens season 2 teaser has yet to be released. Gaiman responds to a Tumblr user who asked, “Okay is it just me or is this taking aeons to be released,” by saying that trailer releases often occur far closer to the air dates of the show. He uses The Sandman, another of his television shows, as an illustration of how long it took to create the first trailer.

Gaiman said, “It’s just you. But if it’s any consolation it was worse for Sandman. We didn’t release the trailer until it was time to release the trailer by which point people on Twitter were already claiming it had been secretly cancelled for being woke and would never be released. Good Omens Season 2 won’t be released until the summer. If we release a trailer now we’ll have at least 6 months of people baffled that it’s not out yet. Sometimes you release a trailer early. Doctor Who has just released a trailer eleven months early. But that’s serving a lot of functions, most importantly restoring confidence in the new-old team of Russell T Davies and David Tennant.”

Gaiman claims that other series opt to release trailers incredibly earlier, like in the most recent trailer for Doctor Who’s anniversary specials, in contrast to the lengthy waits for both the Good Omens and The Sandman videos. The record-breaking Doctor Who trailer was released in December 2022, a full 11 months before the specials are scheduled to debut in November, whilst Good Omens season 2 is only six months away from its premiere and hasn’t yet had a first trailer. Gaiman claims that each series is unique, and in the case of Good Omens, no trailer has yet been released because production on the show is still in progress.

Even though the season 2 trailer is eagerly awaited, there have already been some signs about what to expect. A few very pixelated, warped photographs from season 2 of Crowley (David Tennant) and Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) wearing historical garb were shared by Gaiman in December. These depictions might be a hint that the season will follow the angel and demon team over the many millennia they have lived on Earth. Despite the fact that season 1 mostly concluded the story from the original Good Omens novel, Gaiman and Pratchett always intended to write a follow-up book, but it was never really published. Instead, the second season of the show will follow the basic outline of that unfinished sequel.

The release date of the season 2 trailer is uncertain, but Gaiman argues that doing so would damage the buildup to the season by spoiling the anticipation. Although numerous trailers could shorten that wait, they might also reveal too much about the story or ruin any key surprises. Since there is no available source material for season 2, this is even more crucial. Even though there are unanswered doubts regarding what Good Omens season 2 would entail, it might still be some time before the teaser is made public.
