It seems Nicolas Cage‘s Spider-Man Noir won’t be making a reappearance in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The return of Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 has already been confirmed. Fans have seen characters like the cartoon Spectacular Spider-Man in movie posters, among a host of other Spider heroes from the Spider-Verse who will appear in the animated picture. Spider-Man Noir is one character that has been conspicuously absent from all of the Across the Spider-Verse marketing materials; nevertheless, Nicolas Cage, the character’s voice actor, provides some explanations.

Cage revealed that he won’t be appearing in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in an interview with Screen Rant to promote The Old Way. He also expressed his admiration for Spider-Man Noir. When questioned about the likelihood that fans might see Spider-Man Noir once more, Cage responded, “You’d have to ask Sony. I don’t know what’s going on with that. No one’s spoken to me about that. Ask them. I don’t know. I really don’t. I wish they would. I love Spider-Man Noir, too. I think that’s a great character. Spider-Man’s the coolest superhero. And then you combine that with Cagney and Bogart and Edward G. Robinson, come on, it’s a great character.”

This most likely indicates that Spider-Man Noir won’t appear in Across the Spider-Verse, though Sony Pictures Animation could always recast the role. Although Cage is not currently reprising the role, he does indicate a desire to do so in the future. A monochromatic 1930s-era universe’s Spider-Man Noir features a noir-style Peter Parker.

What to expect from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Miles Morales’ transformation into Spider-Man was the main subject of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, which also introduced and briefly discussed the Spider-Verse. Even if several Spider-Men will be introduced in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, it appears that Spider-Man Noir won’t be one of them. Miles’ transformation into a hero was made possible by Cage’s love of Spider-Man and the old-school noir detectives, who together formed a singular and captivating hero.

There have been rumours concerning the return of Spider-Ham, Peni Parker and Spider-Man Noir after they were conspicuously omitted from the Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse teaser. At least in regards to Spider-Man Noir, Cage appears to have provided a response; nevertheless, if he isn’t involved, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to find that the other two will not be making an appearance in the sequel.

Although Miles and Gwen Stacy and Peter B. Parker grew closer relationships, the other three were equally crucial to his transformation into Spider-Man. Although Cage’s revelation is disheartening, his love and excitement for the role suggest that he might come back in the future. Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, the second instalment of Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, is scheduled for release in 2024.
