The dramatic conclusion of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery was finally preserved because of an accident during filming. The eagerly awaited follow-up to Rian Johnson’s critically acclaimed murder mystery debuted on Netflix. It immediately took off with viewers, becoming among the top 10 most-watched films on the streaming giant ever. When millionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) invites his pals to his private island for a weekend break, private investigator Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) finds himself at the center of another perplexing murder. Accusations start to fly once one of the party members is found dead, which sets for an explosive ending.

The millionaire destroys the sole tangible evidence linking him to Andi Brand’s (Janelle Monáe) earlier murder and the passing of his buddy Duke Cody after the real culprit was proven to be the imbecile Miles (Dave Bautista). Andi’s identical sister Helen (Monáe), encouraged by Blanc, takes matters into her own hands and shatters the countless glass sculptures on exhibit. Later, the rest of the friends join in and begin destroying everything within reach. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Johnson said that during a rehearsal, Jessica Henwick, who portrayed Birdie’s (Kate Hudson) assistant Peg, lost one of the glass sculptures, a prop for which there was no substitute. Henwick expressed his horror and said, “I started to have cold sweats. I still dream about the incident.”

“One of my favorite moments was Jess had a massive one that she got to smash, and she was so excited. It’s a massive wheel of glass. We start rolling the camera, and I’m saying to her, ‘Okay, we want to get this exactly right. We only have one of these. And so what I’m going to do is I’m going to say one, two, three.’ She drops it and then looks right into the camera and does this [makes a shocked face]. We had started the camera just to practice the thing. She broke it and then looked right in the camera. That’s the take that’s in the movie.”

The significance of the glass-breaking scene in Glass Onion

Helen felt she had no choice but to exact revenge of any type with Andi long gone and the perpetrator standing right next to her, getting away with yet another murder. In addition to being therapeutic for Helen, who had to play the role of her sister in order to cope with a bunch of narcissistic individuals, shattering the glass served as a means of punishing the guy who had destroyed her sister’s life. When Miles’ island was destroyed, a piece of him was also destroyed since it was an extension of his ego.

Helen decided that the best way to aid her sister in exacting revenge on Miles was to use Klear, the hazardous alternative fuel based on hydrogen, to destroy the Glass Onion. For Miles and Andi’s business, Klear may have changed the course of the alternative fuel market and generated billions of dollars. But Andi realized how seriously dangerous Klear was at this point. In order to enable the sale of Klear, Miles had her removed as the company’s CEO and convinced his buddies to testify against Andi. Andi’s former coworkers turned against Miles as a result of Miles’ use of the Klear crystal to ignite the hydrogen fueling the Glass Onion and destroy the real Mona Lisa in the process.

Blanc was aware of the extent Helen would go to in order to exact revenge on Miles. The last encouragement for Helen to act came when she was given the Klear and a glass of vodka while being reminded of the reason her sister had left in the first place. The main mystery of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery was solved after exposing scandals and criminal cover-ups.
