The creators of the television show The Last of Us, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, have spoke about what would happen in season 2. Pedro Pascal plays the grizzled survivor Joel Miller in the HBO adaption, which is based on the same-named 2013 PlayStation 3 video game. It focuses on his friendship with the bright 14-year-old orphan Ellie, who is portrayed by Bella Ramsey of Game of Thrones.

Joel and Tess (Anna Torv) are asked by Marlene (Merle Dandridge) to accompany Ellie across the zombie-infested United States to the violent revolutionary group known as the Fireflies when a smuggling operation goes awry. Joel is initially hesitant to undertake the mission, but he quickly realises the significance of it after finding out that Ellie has a rare immunity to the fungus that is wreaking havoc on the earth.

Mazin and Druckmann hinted ideas for The Last of Us season 2 and beyond in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Many people wondered if season 2 will cover the story of The Last of Us Part II since season 1 was anticipated to cover the entirety of the first game in the video game franchise The Last of Us. The second season closely follows the sequel game, as Mazin stated that he dislikes “filler” in his plots.

Druckmann said, “We have no plans to tell any stories beyond adapting the games. We won’t run into the same issue as Game of Thrones since Part II doesn’t end on a cliffhanger.” While Mazin, “I don’t have any interest in a spinning-plates-go-on-forever show. When it becomes a perpetual motion machine, it just can’t help but get kind of … stupid. Endings mean everything to me.”

What to Expect From Season 2 of Last of Us?

According to Mazin and Druckmann, The Last of Us season 2 will probably stick to the plot of the video game The Last of Us Part II. The show won’t be continued indefinitely just because the studio can, according to Mazin, a self-described superfan of both games. Druckmann agrees with Mazin that many television shows go on much past their expiration date and claims that he has no plans for a story that goes beyond the boundaries of the gaming series. The audience will experience a dramatic thrill ride as the main protagonists descend into darkness if The Last of Us season 2 stays true to the heartbreaking plot of The Last of Us Part II.
