Miguel O’Hara, better known as Spider-Man 2099, made his film debut in the original movie’s post-credits sequence and will play a big part in the sequel. Jonathan Ohne, also known as The Spot, is a new antagonist who will make his film debut in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
However, the introduction of a fresh foe brings with it a variety of Spider-Man iterations, several of which were shown in the most recent teaser. The main characters of the sequel will be Jessica Drew and Hobart Brown, aka Spider-Woman and Spider-Punk, respectively. The most recent clip also included appearances by the Spider-Man from the Insomniac video game series. It would be an understatement to say that the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse animation team exceeded expectations. It only goes to show how much they are capitalizing on the Spider-Verse mythology, even though most of the Variants making an appearance will probably be cameos. Given that a female Spider-Verse spinoff is in development, it wouldn’t be surprising if further spinoff films were produced after the latest installment. It would be entertaining to see spinoffs for the new Variants to help grow the franchise, depending on how many of them are accepted.
