Charlie Cox, who starred in Daredevil: Born Again, does not believe that the next Disney+ series will adhere to the comic book it is based on. After prominent cameos in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Spider-Man: No Way Home, Cox will make his official MCU debut in Daredevil: Born Again. Born Again, which Cox refers to as a “whole new thing” and not just the fourth episode of the Netflix series Daredevil, is eagerly awaited due to the popularity of the character and the accolades that Cox has already received for his portrayal. With 18 episodes, it will be the longest Marvel television series yet produced for Disney+.

Cox talked on his recent MCU appearances in an interview with inews.co.uk to promote his part in the short-lived spy series Treason. The actor offered his opinion that the Disney+ series is unlikely to replicate the landmark Born Again comic, which was written by Frank Miller and illustrated by David Mazzucchelli, even if he said that he hasn’t yet seen the scripts for Daredevil: Born Again. Cox said that although the name was picked since it is well-known to fans, it probably wouldn’t follow the same plot lines as the original work. Cox said, “The only way I’ll change is if, tonally, the show is very different. [But] I don’t think anyone should read into the name as to the kind of stories that we’re going to tell.”

About Daredevil: Born Again Comic

In the Born Again comics, the crimes of Kingpin caused the title character to lose his mind and become destitute. The narrative arc also depicts Daredevil’s attempt to start over. Many people believe that the comic is one of the best stories about Daredevil since it heavily incorporates Christian symbolism. There was appreciation for the general theme of Daredevil’s ascent and fall, as well as for Miller’s writing and Mazzucchelli’s artwork. Due to Born Again’s popularity, a sort of follow-up film called Last Rites was produced, in which Daredevil exacted revenge on the Kingpin by sabotaging his reputation and stealing his belongings.

The last two seasons of Netflix’s Daredevil have already incorporated elements of the plot, with lines from Born Again appearing in both Daredevil and its spinoff The Defenders. It’s likely that the Disney+ series will pay respect to the comics given how little is known about what the MCU version of Matt Murdock will look like once he assumes the spotlight. But Cox sounds like he’s trying to manage expectations for what fans should expect from his solo Marvel excursion, at least for his part.

Regardless, the title serves as a tribute and a recognition that Cox is taking over the part again after a long absence. In addition, based on everything Cox has so far said, it appears that his reappearance in Daredevil: Born Again won’t be as graphic as the previous series and possibly won’t be as torturous as the source material. Fans will start to learn more specific narrative details when the project’s filming gets going.
