Charlie Cox, who starred in Daredevil: Born Again, does not believe that the next Disney+ series will adhere to the comic book it is based on. After prominent cameos in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Spider-Man: No Way Home, Cox will make his official MCU debut in Daredevil: Born Again. Born Again, which Cox refers to as a “whole new thing” and not just the fourth episode of the Netflix series Daredevil is eagerly awaited owing to the character’s popularity and the accolades Cox has already received for his depiction. With 18 episodes, it will be the most extended Marvel television series yet produced for Disney+.

Cox talked about his recent MCU appearances in an interview with inews.co.uk to promote his part in the short-lived spy series Treason. The actor offered his opinion that the Disney+ series is unlikely to replicate the landmark Born Again comic, written by Frank Miller and illustrated by David Mazzucchelli, even if he said that he hasn’t seen the scripts for Daredevil: Born Again. Cox said that although the name was picked since it is well-known to fans, it probably wouldn’t follow the same plot lines as the original work. Below are Cox’s opinions and his quotation:

The tone of She-Hulk – a looser, goofy meta-legal procedural — gave Cox new ways of playing Murdock, which he expects will continue in Born Again. “The only way I’ll change is if, tonally, the show is very different.” The series shares a name with a Daredevil comic series, but Cox thinks it was likely chosen to be on-the-nose. “I don’t think anyone should read into the name as to the kind of stories that we’re going to tell.”

What was the plot of Daredevil’s Born Again comic?

Because of Kingpin’s deeds, the titular character in the Born Again comics narrative descended into madness and poverty. The storyline also focuses on Daredevil’s effort to start over. Many people believe that the comic, which heavily employs Christian iconography, is one of the finest Daredevil tales. The general theme of Daredevil’s ascent and fall, as well as Miller’s writing and Mazzucchelli’s artwork, received praise. Due to Born Again’s popularity, a sort of sequel called Last Rites was produced, in which Daredevil exacted revenge on the Kingpin by ruining his reputation and stealing his belongings.

Lines from Born Again appeared in both Daredevil and its spinoff The Defenders over the past two seasons of Netflix’s Daredevil, incorporating elements of the tale. Given the lack of information on Matt Murdock’s appearance in the MCU after he becomes the lead role, it seems probable that the Disney+ series would pay respect to the comics. However, Cox seems to be controlling expectations for what audiences might expect from his solo Marvel excursion, at least for his part.

Regardless, the moniker serves as a tribute and a recognition that Cox is reprising the role after a long absence. Beyond that, it appears that Cox’s comeback in Daredevil: Born Again won’t be as graphic as the previous season and maybe won’t be as torturous as the source material based on all he has so far said. Fans will start to learn more specific narrative elements when production on the project gets underway.
