According to rumours, Johnny Depp and director Mawenn struggled while filming his upcoming project, the French movie Jeanne du Barry. There were several arguments on the set as a result of the actor’s verbal fights with the director on numerous occasions. According to a recent interview with French showbiz journalist Bernard Montield, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor and Mawenn frequently disagreed, often about timing.

He said, “Johnny Depp is an excellent actor when he comes on the set. Except that sometimes the team is ready at 6 am and no one comes. So, afterward, Maïwenn gets angry and the next day, it is she who does not come and there is Johnny Depp. It’s madness. They’re (expletive) off.” Bernard discussed the moment Jeanne du Barry was being taped on the discussion show TPMP, “It’s going very, very badly. They argue constantly.”

However, Johnny was slated to return in the sixth instalment of the Pirates franchise, but just around that time, Amber was the target of Johnny’s defamation lawsuit as a result of more media rumours. The project was later discovered to have been scrapped by Disney after Amber’s complaints of abuse. In March 2019, Johnny filed a $50 million lawsuit against his ex-wife in response to her 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post, in which she claimed to be “a public figure representing domestic abuse.” In a follow-up to the court documents, Johnny claimed that he was the one who had experienced abuse in the couple’s union.

The subsequent seven-week defamation trial ended in Johnny’s favour; he was given $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive penalties. The punitive damages were further decreased, remaining the highest in the State, at $350,000. Amber, on the other hand, also received a $2 million damage award. On the trail, Johnny had voiced a wish to return to the Pirates of the Caribbean series. According to him, Jack Sparrow’s persona deserved a proper sendoff.
