Daniel Craig, who plays Chris Evans in Knives Out, is still perplexed about how his co-sweater star’s came to be regarded as an iconic piece of clothing by viewers worldwide. Craig played the private investigator Benoit Blanc in the Rian Johnson-helmed whodunit movie, which had its theatrical debut in late 2019. Evans played Hugh Ransom Drysdale, the grandson of a well-known crime author whose passing sparks the plot’s core mystery. A bulky cable knit sweater that Ransom is wearing in a scene where he is visiting with his grandfather’s carer Marta Cabrera (Ana de Armas) caught the attention of many viewers and sparked a wave of memes praising the outfit.
Before the Netflix sequel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery debuted, BBC Radio 1 spoke with Craig. He admitted that he still doesn’t know why the sweater took off the way it did while thinking back on the first movie. He said he was confused by the response, claiming that people reacted as though Evans was “kind of nude from the waist down” Below is his whole quote:
It’s the bit that goes over my head. I don’t understand. It’s like, so Chris Evans is wearing a jumper. It’s like he’s naked or at least naked from the sort of waist down, wearing a jumper. I’m like, “He’s just wearing a jumper.”
