Better Call Saul’s Kim Wexler, played by Rhea Seehorn, frequently read the episode scripts with the idea that her character would die.

When the series’ six-season run began in 2015, where did Seehorn anticipate Kim Wexler’s tale to go?, she was asked in an interview with Empire Magazine. “I was clueless. I genuinely believed [Kim] may pass away “the actor who was shortlisted for an Emmy said. I would chuckle and quickly flick through the pages with [co-star] Patrick Fabian, saying, “It just become customary to say, “I don’t want to leave this sandbox.” It has the best characters, best literature, and best people.”

The main plot of the Breaking Bad prequel Better Call Saul follows the morally bankrupt Saul Goodman’s (Bob Odenkirk) metamorphosis from the well-intentioned defense lawyer Jimmy McGill. Several characters from Breaking Bad were present in the prequel, although Seehorn’s role was among those made specifically for Better Call Saul. Seehorn’s concern about being written off the show was therefore not misplaced, even though Kim did manage to survive the events of the highly regarded series finale.

Unveiling Better Call Saul’s Unexpected Finale

Seehorn wasn’t the only member of the Better Call Saul ensemble to anticipate the outcome of the finale inaccurately; Jimmy was given a life sentence for his crimes and ultimately found inner peace. Odenkirk previously admitted that he had anticipated Saul’s climax to be far more action-packed than it was, yet he was not dissatisfied with the series’ more character-focused finish. One of the difficulties I had was that the characters had these blind spots in their own conduct despite being quite emotionally sophisticated about practically everyone they interacted with, according to Odenkirk. And in the end, the authors gave these characters the insight into themselves that I believed they already possessed.

Seehorn and Odenkirk both have a tonne of work on new projects since the closure of Better Call Saul. Having received a two-season order in September, the next Apple TV+ series from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan will star Seehorn. Meanwhile, there are rumors that Odenkirk may play an unspecified part with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the new Wonder Man series from Marvel Studios that will air on Disney+.

On Netflix and AMC+, Better Call Saul is presently streaming.
