A significant event from an upcoming episode may be seen in a new How I Met Your Father season 2 graphic. The second season of the How I Met Your Mother spinoff series, which debuted on Hulu in January, is scheduled to broadcast on January 24, 2023. The show centers on the love life of single New York City resident Sophie (Hilary Duff) and which of the guys she met on a special night will father her kid, as told by 50-year-old Sophie in the future (Kim Cattrall).

An exclusive first-look image from season two of How I Met Your Father was released by TVLine today. As Sophie appears to be answering the phone while submerged in a kiddie pool set up in the midst of the kitchen, the picture indicates that season 1’s mischief won’t be slowing down anytime soon. This picture was taken from the January 31 episode of “Midwife Crisis,” according to TVLine, which shows her asking Val (Francia Raisa) for assistance with a job she obtained by lying on her resume—presumably a midwifery job, given the episode’s title. She is also awaiting word from gallery owner Naomi Reisberg to learn whether her first portrait has been purchased. View the full-size photo below:

A Breakdown of How I Met Your Father Season 2

Season 1 of How I Met Your Father has just 10 episodes; however, season 2 is growing significantly and already has an entire order of 20. The show’s co-creators Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker said there would be more stand-alone episodes because of the more breathing room. Sometimes moments with “everyone hanging around and enjoying a fun night together” take precedence over scenes with “every episode focusing on deepening the story and digging the depths of the mystery.”

That doesn’t mean, though, that the story will ever come to an end, as the picture above illustrates. Most of the prospective dads are still in the running at this stage, including Charlie, Sid, and fan favorite Jesse (Chris Lowell of My Best Friend’s Exorcism) (Tom Ainsley). Josh Peck’s recurrent character Drew, who dated Sophie over the course of several episodes, will also make a cameo appearance in season 2. Cattrall, Raisa, and Tien Tran, who plays Jesse’s sister Ellen, will all be back along with the rest of the major actors who are not the fathers.

There is currently no information available on any upcoming cameos from How I Met Your Mother in How I Met Your Father. The spinoff series managed to snag a cameo from main cast member Cobie Smulders as Robin Scherbastsky in addition to the presence of numerous regular characters. This has fans wondering whether Josh Radnor, Alyson Hannigan, Jason Segel, or Neil Patrick Harris would make any future cameo appearances. While it is yet to be determined, the show may now be watched without appearances, so they might be limited to entertaining Easter eggs rather than overt universe-linking moments.
