Charlie Cox admits that despite Daredevil: Born Again‘s impending premiere on the Marvel Disney+ streaming service, he has not yet read any scripts for the show. Before it was cancelled in 2018, the popular Marvel series Daredevil on Netflix had a three-season run. This decision caused a huge uproar among fans. In the first season of the show, Charlie Cox played Matt Murdock, a lawyer by day and the masked vigilante Daredevil at night.

Following the announcement that Daredevil will have his own Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again, due to debut in early 2024, Cox’s MCU future appears even more promising. Cox admits that despite the series’ production shortly starting, he hasn’t seen any of the scripts. Although Cox has acknowledged that at this point he has practically no idea what to expect, the series will formally start production in February of next year and continue through December.

Daredevil first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Spider-Man: No Way Home last year, and his most recent appearance was in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on Disney+. From then, Daredevil: Born Again will develop his narrative and make him into a stand-alone character. It’s likely that Daredevil: Born Again will include a few tie-ins to the larger MCU given that each of Disney+’s Marvel series runs concurrently with the studio’s theatrical releases. Many anticipate that the 18-episode series will establish him as a key player in the MCU moving forward.

Cox will first appear in the new MCU series Echo, which is expected to premiere in late 2023, before Daredevil: Born Again. Audiences anticipate that Cox and fellow Daredevil co-star Vincent D’Onofrio, who made his own MCU debut as Kingpin in last year’s Hawkeye, will reconnect in Echo. Aside from these more obvious ties, Daredevil: Born Again’s New York setting might also lead to some potentially surprising connections, given that several of the MCU’s current characters call the city home. For the time being, it’s unclear how the plot of Daredevil: Born Again will carry Cox’s character through Phase 5 and beyond.

Cox’s honesty regarding the Daredevil: Born Again scripts may not be completely believed by everyone. The official inclusion of Daredevil in the MCU has caused some controversy among Marvel fans, who want to see the character transition from Netflix to the considerably more family-friendly Disney+. In order to appease fans who have campaigned for Cox’s return over the years, Marvel probably wants Daredevil: Born Again to be a success. Since Daredevil: Born Again filming is now just around the corner, it’s probable that Cox will receive scripts from Marvel shortly, if he hasn’t already.
