The writers of the Addams Family spin-off Wednesday hinted at what viewers might see in a hypothetical season 2 following the record-breaking success of season one of Netflix’s Wednesday. The hit series follows the iconically gloomy Wednesday Addams, played by rising star Jenna Ortega, as she adjusts to new relationships and a life away from her family at Nevermore Academy. There, she quickly faces the challenge of figuring out who has been killing her fellow students while attempting to avoid her own death. Season one of Wednesday, the renowned gothic filmmaker Tim Burton’s first foray into television, was a smashing success and quickly rose to the position of second-most watched English-language show on the enormous streaming service.

The authors of the Netflix blockbuster Wednesday join The Hollywood Reporter to talk about their visions for the young Addams’ future as people eagerly await season 2. The authors claim that the series would continue to focus on the key relationships that the title character explored and unpacked in season one, particularly with her upbeat roommate and unexpected close friend Enid and her mother, the adored Morticia Addams.

Wednesday’s creator Al Gough shared, “We wanna sort of explore and sort of complicate all of those relationships going forward. The school was closed when they left, which gave us the most possibilities for season two, and I think that’s something that we’re excited to explore. For us, the show also is really about this female friendship, with Wednesday and Enid really being at the center of that. The fact that they really connected with audiences, it has been really gratifying… Then, the other thing that’s really interesting is to continue to explore the Wednesday-Morticia mother-daughter relationship as well..How is their relationship going to evolve?”

When to expect Wednesday Season 2?

While Netflix hasn’t formally confirmed that Wednesday will return for a second season, the show’s enormous popularity and devoted fan base should allay any concerns about it being cancelled. When a show is renewed, the streaming service typically waits until months after its premiere to make the announcement. Wednesday is no exception. Fans won’t have to wait too long, though, as long as the authors’ confidence is anything to go by, as Wednesday season 2 will be announced and in the works.

Fans are unsure of how the show will continue after the dramatic cliffhanger finish of season 1 as Wednesday season 2 is yet to be announced. Many of its specifics have been kept under wraps and are still vague because a season 2 has not been formally confirmed, but the authors have given spectators some insight into how they want to continue Wednesday’s coming-of-age narrative. It is hoped that now that Wednesday has moved back into her family’s house, season 2 will bring her support from recognisable figures like Gomez, who is portrayed by Luis Guzman, and her brother Pugsly. The deep and rewarding season 1 should be enough to keep viewers interested until Wednesday season 2 is confirmed.
