The premiere date for Mindy Kaling’s adult animation series Velma has been confirmed by HBO Max. The undertaking was first announced in February 2021. Ten episodes long and voiced by Kaling, Velma was previously referred to as the origin story of the Scooby Gang’s underrated brains. It was claimed that the programme would lift the curtain and show viewers more of the adored and sophisticated mystery-solver. Given Kaling’s reputation on The Office and the promise that a more mature look of well-known characters can offer, the announcement sparked a lot of conversation.
TVLine has confirmed that the animated series’ premiere date is Thursday, January 12, following the release of a teaser video that gave viewers a taste of Velma and its tone. It is still unknown whether all 10 episodes will air simultaneously, every week, or if the streaming service will prefer to distribute episodes in portions. Fans can anticipate a mocking and possibly slasher vibe from Velma based on the teaser clip.
More generally, Velma and the rest of Mystery Inc. before they were officially formed have been seen in HBO Max’s animated adaptation of the Scooby-Gang. There will also be some “love quadrangle” among the group. Shaggy is voiced by Sam Richardson of Veep and The Afterparty. The voice of Daphne will be provided by Fresh Off the Boat’s Constance Wu. Fred is voiced by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Glenn Howerton.
Charlie Grandy co-created the film Velma, which features a strong supporting cast. Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, Melissa Fumero, Ming-Na Wen, Shay Mitchell, Debby Ryan, and Scooby-Doo veteran Frank Welker are just a few of the actors who have appeared in the series. But Scooby-Doo is one feature that fans shouldn’t initially anticipate. Grandy revealed that although they had thought about including the recognisable dog, they eventually decided that it wouldn’t suit with the series’ more mature tone.
