James Gunn has rejected speculations that he will recast all the DC Universe characters while maintaining the casts of his two films, The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker.

The director turned to Twitter to refute accusations that the new CEOs of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, were recasting almost all of the DCU characters, which had been going about for weeks. Gunn affirmed that the duo is “not recasting everyone except The Suicide Squad,” stating that the rumor being spread on social media is “untrue.”

After hearing that Henry Cavill will not be playing Superman once more, despite having already declared his return and making a brief cameo appearance after Black Adam, these allegations quickly surfaced. According to Gunn, the studio does have a Superman film in development, but Cavill won’t be the right age for the role. Superman won’t be played by Henry Cavill at first since the plot will initially center on a different period of the character’s existence. The eagerly awaited third installment of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman will also not be created, even though Gunn and Safran were not involved in the decision. There are also rumors that Cavill and Gadot cameos in The Flash were dropped.

By using part of the same characters, The Suicide Squad (2021), written, directed, and produced by Safran, acted as a soft remake of Suicide Squad from 2016. These people include Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Captain Boomerang, Jai Courtney as Harley Quinn, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Idris Elba portrayed Bloodsport instead of the original Deadshot role performed by Will Smith in the first film, which means no roles were replaced between the two films.

The Suicide Squad ensemble included several actors that went on to play in or make appearances in the spinoff Peacemaker. Jennifer Holland (Emilia Harcourt) and Davis also made an appearance in Black Adam. Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Ezra Miller as The Flash both made brief appearances in Peacemaker, while stand-ins with masked faces filled in for Superman and Wonder Woman. The Flash, presently due for release on June 16, 2023, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, set for release on December 25, 2023, are both DCEU standalone movies starring Momoa and Miller.
