Simu Liu discusses why first viewing the Barbie video was an odd experience. The first live-action version of Mattel’s renowned fashion doll line is scheduled to debut on July 21, 2023, and it will be directed by Greta Gerwig. While many details about the movie remain a mystery, viewers have already seen Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in costume, and it has been revealed that the plot will contain several different versions of Ken and Barbie, with Lucy Liu playing an alternate Ken. The actor previously referred to the film as vibrant and provided fans a glimpse into the working environment by equating each day on set to hanging out with a bunch of friends.

Liu is now commenting on the shooting experience and expressing his initial thoughts on the official Barbie teaser trailer in an interview with People. The actor teases that there will be one more trailer released prior to the movie’s premiere and expresses his excitement for fans to witness the movie. Following are Liu’s remarks on the Barbie teaser:

“It was pretty much what you see in the trailer. I feel like you can kind of surmise what kind of experience we had filming it just by watching the trailer. It’s so much fun… The dancing, the laughing, all of that. That was every single day for us on set. So now to finally see that in a work form is actually surreal because we just felt like we were having fun the whole time. But I’m really excited for people to watch more. I think there will be one more trailer that comes out before the movie, but I think it’s great to keep the audience guessing, and I can’t wait for them to see.”

What We Know So Far About The Barbie Movie

Audiences have been speculating about the movie’s likely story and themes ever since the most recent trailer for Barbie was released. The teaser, which is narrated by Helen Mirren, accentuates the impact of Mattel’s doll by opening with a scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey, which received great feedback from viewers and Stanley Kubrick himself. It also provides a glimpse at the other actors who appear as different iterations of Barbie and Ken with Liu, including Hari Nef, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, and Issa Rae.  America Ferrera, Will Ferrell, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, and Michael Cera round out Barbie’s ensemble cast.

The movie would follow Robbie’s role as she ventures outside of Barbieland to experience real life only to come under the CEO of Mattel’s wrath, according to early speculations, although nothing has been officially confirmed. The video gives viewers a brief glimpse of Barbie’s home, and given that Robbie hinted that there will be Dream Houses, viewers can anticipate that Barbieland will be included in the film to some extent. The Barbie teaser suggests that there will probably be more to the narrative as both Gerwig and Noah Baumbach wrote the script.

Audiences have been anticipating Barbie’s debut ever since it was announced, and with each new piece of information that is released, it manages to trend online, making it one of the most anxiously awaited projects of 2023. It will be fascinating to see how it does and whether viewers really get out to support it given that it has the same release date as Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, another anticipated box-office success. Check out Barbie when the movie opens in theatres next year if you’re eager to witness Liu and the rest of the actors bring Mattel’s doll to life.
