If He Has Changed His Mind About The Last Jedi, Mark Hamill Discusses It

Mark Hamill discusses if his opinion of Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi has altered. After a brief cameo after JJ Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Hamill’s Luke Skywalker was finally brought back in the eighth installment of the Skywalker saga and the second of the sequel trilogy. Since the hero’s whereabouts were a major mystery in the sequels’ original concept, there were great hopes for his return. However, the portrayal of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Last Jedi ultimately proved so divisive, with some ardent fans protesting against it. Hamill soon joined the discussion and somewhat endorsed those comments.

This month marks the fifth anniversary of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and in light of this, Hamill was questioned on Twitter about if his opinions had changed. That includes if he still regrets how his Star Wars hero’s story turned out in the movie. For context, the actor began to express his displeasure with the movie’s harsher treatment of Luke Skywalker, practically declaring that he doesn’t recognize the character. Why The Last Jedi Is So Debatable

If He Has Changed His Mind About The Last Jedi, Mark Hamill Discusses It 2

Disney and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi was a huge success, grossing more than $1.3 billion worldwide. It is also one of the recent blockbusters that have generated the most controversy. Johnson’s interpretation of the well-loved tale drew both acclaim and scorn. The movie was favorably praised by numerous reviewers, but spectators didn’t appear to like it as much. This led to poisonous dialogue overshadowing robust online discussion over the movie, with some ardent space saga fans not holding back on sharing their opinions.

The complaints boiled down to a few issues, but Johnson’s portrayal of Luke Skywalker received the most of attention. The renowned Jedi wasn’t the upbeat hero he was in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, thus his place in The Last Jedi is incredibly contentious. As a result of Ben Solo’s dark shift, he had already lost upon the cause of the Resistance battling the First Order. Instead, he was skeptical. Even when General Leia Organa dispatched Rey to get in touch with him, he originally refused to assist her. Second, a lot of Star Wars: The Force Awakens storyline developments were overlooked in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Johnson claims to still adore Star Wars despite the criticism he received for his artistic choices in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The director was scheduled to produce his own Star Wars trilogy, but progress on that project appears to have halted, and details on that attempt are now lacking. Through Luke Skywalker’s cameos on The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett, Hamill has made a few more appearances in the series.
