The third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power may soon be renewed. With 25 million viewers on the first day and 24 billion minutes watched total, the first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power set new records for Amazon. Before season 1 even aired, the show was renewed for season 2, indicating a promising future for it. Amazon has already created a plan for the show that will last through season 5.

Sanders claims that information on The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3 can be anticipated sometime in 2023 in an interview with Deadline. He reaffirms Amazon’s commitment to producing the entire series while also dropping hints about what will happen in season 3 before season 2 premieres. Sanders said, “We are absolutely committed, we have every reason to be excited. They’ve done a tremendous job. It’s a great question about Season 3, we’re probably two to three months in on Season 3, but I think there could be news certainly in the new year. There’s so much planning and prep that’s necessary for us to get this mounted that the only reason we probably haven’t gotten there quite yet is we’ve just been so heads down in Season 2, but I would expect there to be news in the new year.

Despite Sanders’ continued evasiveness regarding potential season 3 news for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Amazon’s significant investment in the show confirms their intention to carry through their current production plans until season 5. The first season of the Middle-earth-centered series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, cost $462 million to produce, making it the most costly Tv show ever made. Given the significant financial investment made in the show’s first season alone, it is likely that Amazon will produce the complete Second Age of Middle-earth trip.

Amazon would like to produce each season of The Rings of Power that has been previously planned, but it is not the only reason given for their desire to do so. Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have already plotted out the entire series from beginning to end, in contrast to many TV shows whose seasons aren’t prepared in advance. The two already know what their final shot will be in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Payne stated back in June. Given the level of detail that has been incorporated into the series from the beginning, it would be negligent on Amazon’s part to abandon Payne and McKay’s artistic vision for the project.

The Rings of Power will continue to be produced by Amazon as long as the show maintains its present levels of popularity, as evidenced by both financial and narrative-based incentives. With so many streaming milestones under its belt, it doesn’t appear that the fantasy series will lose popularity anytime soon. Already in development, Season 2 teases a plot with increased involvement from Sauron and multi-episode fights. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3’s teaser by Sanders demonstrates how committed Amazon is to its commitment in the show and how they very certainly will continue to produce Payne and McKay’s vision until the very end.
