The Marvel Studios’ first official written storyline summary The Marvels are teasing a universe-saving quest.
For her first significant appearance since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, Brie Larson’s super-strong superhero will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain Marvel 2. Carol Danvers is in for a problematic voyage across the cosmos, but she won’t be traveling alone, after a pair of exciting cameos from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Ms. Marvel in the post-credits sequences.
Although there is still little information regarding how precisely these three will come together, Larson will stand with Monica Rambeau played by Teyonah Parris, and Kamala Khan played by Iman Vellani in Captain Marvel 2.
Some of those facts have already been public, hinting at some significant obstacles for Carol and her team as the MCU prepares to enter its Phase 5 slate in 2023.
Release of the First Synopsis for Captain Marvel 2
Disney released the first official synopsis for 2023’s The Marvels through a press release, as was informed to The Direct via the Twitter account @CaptMarvelBR.
The description takes a look back at the pivotal moments of Captain Marvel from 2019 and describes Carol as “bearing the burden of a destabilized cosmos” as a result of her escape from Kree indoctrination. In the sequel, a wormhole will catalyze to bring Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan together as their respective “powers become entwined” in time to “save the universe”:
Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as ‘The Marvels.’
What Else to Look Forward to In The Marvels
This narrative appears to be directly related to the last scene of Ms. Marvel, where Carol Danvers was forced to trade places with Kamala Khan because of Kamala’s bracelet. Now that Monica Rambeau and Kamala have finally met, it seems that Carol will have to learn how to control Monica and her mutant talents and those of Monica. This should make for some fascinating conflicts.
She also needs to repair her strained friendship with Monica Rambeau, who still holds Maria’s closest friend responsible for being gone from the planet when Maria passed away from cancer. Fans may discover a more talented Monica whenever she makes an appearance in The Marvels because it’s still unknown where Monica is after they last saw her get abilities in Westview during WandaVision.
The stakes in this film ought to much exceed what Carol witnessed in her 2019 origin tale, even though it’s still unclear what else will result from this wormhole and the Kree revolutionary, played by Zawe Ashton.
