The official trailer for Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming historical drama Oppenheimer, which stars Peaky Blinders actor Cillian Murphy in the title role of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, also referred to as the “father of the atomic bomb,” has been released by Universal Pictures.

The official synopsis provided by Universal for Oppenheimer says, “Oppenheimer is an IMAX-shot epic thriller that thrusts spectators into the pulse-pounding dilemma of the mysterious man who must risk destroying the world to rescue it. Written and directed by Christopher Nolan. American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the Pulitzer Prize–winning book by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, served as the model for the film.

Oppenheimer by Christopher Nolan Features an All-Star Cast

Murphy, the primary actor in Oppenheimer, has already collaborated with Nolan, most notably in the Dark Knight Trilogy, where the Irish actor played the iconic Batman villain Dr. Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow. Dunkirk, Nolan’s 2017 World War II movie, also included Murphy. Oppenheimer also stars Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt as J. Robert Oppenheimer’s biologist/botanist wife Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer, Matt Damon as General Leslie Groves Jr., director of the Manhattan Project, and Murphy as the title historical figure himself.

Oppenheimer is the first Nolan movie since 2000’s Memento to be released by Universal rather than Warner Bros. on home turf or abroad. Although it debuted in July of last year, the initial teaser trailer for Oppenheimer was not made available online then. Instead, it was only presented in theatres together with Jordan Peele’s science fiction horror flick Nope.

On July 21, 2023, Oppenheimer, a film by Christopher Nolan, will debut in cinemas.
