In a recently published The Witcher: Blood Origin trailer, a terrifying new creature is introduced to the fantasy adventure series. The new limited series, which will debut on Netflix on Christmas Day, is a prequel to The Witcher, a well-known television program based on a number of fantasy novels authored by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The original series features Henry Cavill’s character Geralt of Rivia, an enchanted monster hunter whose life unintentionally gets mixed up in conflicts over power and politics between numerous countries, their rulers, and powerful magicians.

A new The Witcher: Blood Origin teaser (via Variety) adds a horrifying new species to the series’ extensive bestiary with little over a week till its release. In the clip, the previous Raven Clan Queen’s bodyguard Éile (Sophia Brown) is seen taking in a bright blossom poking out of a marshy pond. However, it quickly becomes clear that the flower is actually a lure used by a huge animal that resembles a hybrid of an anglerfish and a centipede.

What is Known About the Blood Origin

Seven warriors from different backgrounds will be the center of attention in The Witcher: Blood Origin as they work together to combat dangers to the realm. The party also includes Scian (Michelle Yeoh), a former warrior of the elven Ghost Clan who was rescued by the Raven Clan when the King of Xintrea betrayed them. After living in exile in the Black Sands, she subsequently served as Éile’s mentor and sword instructor. A highly devoted warrior of the Dog Clan named Fjall Stoneheart (Laurence O’Fuarain), joins them.

Together with The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, The Witcher writer Declan de Barra conceived the series. The prequel series takes place around 1,200 years before the events of the original program, during the Golden Age of elves. The elf civilizations were at their pinnacle during this time period, before engaging in deadly battles with people and rapidly declining. The Conjunction of the Spheres, the beginnings of the monoliths, and the creation of the first Witcher are just a few of the critical events that The Witcher: Blood Origin will represent. These events have all been taken from the lore of Sapkowski’s epic novels.

The prequel series takes set more than a millennium before The Witcher’s events, but the most recent teaser for the program shows the bard Jaskier (Joey Batey) traveling across time using magic used by the enigmatic wizard Seanchai (Minnie Driver). Although no explanation for the musician’s summons has been provided, his reappearance is most likely related to the original series’ overall plot, maybe acting as a witness to earlier events that would help guide key choices in the future. The Witcher: Blood Origin will be available on Netflix on December 25, so viewers won’t have to wait too long to learn Jaskier’s actual motivations in the prequel series.
