Black Adam’s Dwayne Johnson responds to a recent article that claimed his relationship with DC Studios had deteriorated amid different changes at the firm. Johnson had been in discussions to join the comic book series for more than ten years before he was ultimately given the opportunity to play Black Adam. Still, he was first interested in playing Shazam in the movie of the same name. With James Gunn now in charge at DC Studios and formulating a new strategy for the DC Universe, some have started to doubt specific talent’s ties to the studio as Black Adam finally arrived in theatres this past October to generally mixed reviews from critics and a lackluster performance at the box office.

Explained: Dwayne Johnson’s Alleged DC Issues

A number of additional reports concerning Johnson’s alleged problems working with DC have surfaced in recent months, in addition to the assertion that he unfollowed the two studios on Instagram. In order to get Henry Cavill to appear as Superman in Black Adam, the blockbuster star is rumored to have gone past current Warner Bros. Pictures executives Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy. The Man of Steel star was not wanted back by either studio until the new DCU creative team persuaded them to alter their minds, according to Johnson, who recently corroborated these rumors.

Additionally, Johnson is said to have objected to the initial intentions for Black Adam and Shazam to square off in the DC Universe, as they do in the comics. The actor is said to have disliked the latter character and even declined the offer to make a cameo in Shazam! The Gods’ fury. The actor took to social media to reassure fans that his DC Comics debut would actually turn a profit for the studio of between $52-72 million, even pointing out how the first Captain America movie, The First Avenger, only made $370 million against its $140 million production budget. This assurance came in response to recent reports that Black Adam was poised to lose WB up to $100 million due to a lackluster performance at the box office.
