After the public learns that Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker early in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter’s friends MJ and Ned have their acceptance to MIT revoked because of their relationship with the Web-Slinger, while Flash appears to succeed despite publishing a book about his friendship with Spider-Man.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actor Tony Revolori, who plays Flash Thompson in the Spider-Man films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, clarified the seeming contradiction. “Ned, MJ, and Peter not only weren’t admitted, but it is also clear that they belong to a lower socioeconomic class. Flash undoubtedly paid his way into the school, at least that’s how I imagined it. The college admissions scandal, in which wealthy parents paid bribes to have their children approved, was ongoing at the time we were filming. So we jokingly said that Flash was the case.
Flash Thompson is portrayed in the MCU as a haughty privileged child, in contrast to earlier renditions of the character, which were supposedly done to symbolize more contemporary bullies. While this new Flash doesn’t engage in physical altercations with his students, he does taunt Peter and make an effort to make him seem bad. Flash, however, openly defends Spider-Man and claims that they have always been great friends after discovering Spider-identity Man’s in No Way Home. Even as a joke, he creates a book on their friendship, but the book vanishes when Doctor Strange casts his magic.
After the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home, in which Spider-identity Man was finally disclosed to the world by Mysterio and J. Jonah Jameson of the Daily Bugle, Spider-Man: No Way Home picks up immediately after Far From Home. In No Way Home, Peter seeks the help of Doctor Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme, in an effort to discredit Spider-Man. When Peter mishandles the spell, the MCU is unwittingly opened up to the likes of Doc Ock, the Green Goblin, Sandman, and other villains.
Although Marvel Studios and Sony have hinted at potential plans for a fourth picture, the majority of the No Way Home ensemble views the movie as the finale of a trilogy. A fourth installment may already be in pre-production, according to a recent report, however, this hasn’t been formally verified. This came as news broke that Tom Holland, the hero of the MCU’s Spider-Man franchise, had signed a deal for one more installment.
