Netflix’s next WWII epic Six Triple Eight will be helmed by Tyler Perry. The writer-director has already produced three Netflix films: A Madea Homecoming, A Fall From Grace, and most recently, A Jazzman’s Blues, which debuted in September. Perry will collaborate with the streamer along with Don’t Look Up in 2021. In the movie, which was directed by Adam McKay, he and Cate Blanchett were co-hosts of a morning talk show.

According to Netflix (via Variety), Perry will now write and film Six Triple Eight, a WWII saga for the streaming service. The 6888th battalion piece by Kevin M. Hymel, which was printed in WWII History Magazine by Sovereign Media, will serve as the basis for Perry’s script.

What is Currently Known About Six Triple Eight

The 6888th battalion made history by being the first all-Black, all-female battalion in the war, but it wasn’t publicly known until President Joe Biden signed the legislation authorizing the troops to earn the Congressional Gold Medal on March 14, 2022. Six Triple Eight will share their underappreciated and unheard tale. According to the movie’s blurb on Netflix, the 855 members of the 6888th had no clue when they enlisted in the war effort that they would be responsible for going through and resolving a three-year backlog of undeliverable mail—a difficult, taxing work.

They speedily accomplished this, sifting 17 million pieces of mail and reuniting soldiers with their loved ones and some sense of normalcy at home. The regiment also had to deal with prejudice, strange surroundings, and a nation that was in the midst of a war. They came up with their catchphrase, “No Mail, Low Morale,” which served as their inspiration. Otherwise, very little information about the movie has been released, but Perry can provide a voice to those who merit recognition and appreciation for their work. This suggests that Six Triple Eight will be a moving and distinctive film that might easily establish itself apart from other World War II tales.

Perry has been expanding his creative horizons as a filmmaker by deciding to work on projects other than his immensely popular and entertaining Madea series. In addition, he has been able to develop his skills and write tales with even more sophisticated and nuanced characters, maintaining his position as an essential and significant person in the entertainment business. The ensemble cast in Perry’s next drama, Six Triple Eight, can provide heartfelt performances in a war movie that will stand out in its genre. It also has the potential to be Perry’s strongest drama to date.
