Producer of Pirates of the Caribbean Talks About Potential Johnny Depp Comeback

If Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow will appear in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 again, producer Jerry Bruckheimer offers his opinion. Depp’s con artist pirate, first introduced to the series in 2003, has appeared in every film in the series to date. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales received a dismal critical response when it was released in 2017, and Depp’s legal issues with his ex-wife Amber Heard followed. As a result, the franchise was virtually placed on hold. The franchise’s sixth installment has long been discussed, but it hasn’t happened, and Depp has previously stated that he has no desire to do it.

Bruckheimer now discusses whether Depp may return as Sparrow in the following Pirates of the Caribbean movie, following the recent word that Margot Robbie’s film has been placed on hold. Bruckheimer is careful not to reveal too much in a recent interview with AP Entertainment, but he does hint that work on the movie is progressing behind the scenes. When asked whether Depp’s comeback is likely, Bruckheimer responded as follows.

“We’re still working on it. Nothing’s definitive yet, but we continue to take little baby steps getting towards a screenplay.”

How Jack Sparrow Should Be Integrated Into Pirates of the Caribbean 6

The fact that the films depend so much on Depp’s persona may be one of the major flaws in both Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Sparrow’s journey crosses with that of Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) and Will Turner in all three of the original trilogy’s movies, especially the first two, which contribute to their universal appeal (Orlando Bloom). The love story between Elizabeth and Will, who are more human and sympathetic characters, serves as the foundation for some of the most moving and poignant sequences in the first trilogy’s films.

Sparrow cannot be the sole character in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 for it to recapture some of the franchise’s initial enchantment. In the most recent episode, Elizabeth and Will made a comeback, but they had minor roles with little to do. In order to make place for new characters, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 should either try to give both of these original characters a bigger role in the plot or leave them out entirely. The two previous movies made an effort to offer some new faces for viewers to root for, but in the end, the new characters were not as interesting as Will and Elizabeth.

Uncertainty surrounds the development of Pirates of the Caribbean 6, but it is clear that Depp’s reappearance would excite many fans of the series. Of course, it’s also conceivable that Depp won’t have any interest in making a comeback at all, in which case the movie would have to find a way to move forward without Sparrow, which would be no simple feat. It will probably be a while before fans learn about Depp’s comeback because Bruckheimer’s statement confirmed that Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is still in the very early phases of development and that the screenplay hasn’t even been drafted.
