One of the night’s biggest awards, the Carol Burnett Award, will go to the TV magnate at the Golden Globes on Jan. 10. Eddie Murphy will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award.

The Netflix sensation “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” produced by megaproducer Ryan Murphy, received a Golden Globe nomination this week. It is up for best TV limited series, best anthology series, and a best TV movie. But now that Murphy has been chosen to win the fourth Carol Burnett Award in the history of the kudocast, he can be sure to leave the next Globes ceremony with at least one trophy, regardless of what happens.

On Thursday morning, Murphy’s Carol Burnett Award was scheduled to be announced by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The information indicates that Murphy will be present to receive the award at the 80th annual Golden Globe Awards on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

As the television equivalent of the HFPA’s venerable Cecil B. DeMille Award, which has recognized excellence in the film industry since 1952, the Carol Burnett Award was introduced in 2019. The first prize went to Burnett, then it was given to Ellen DeGeneres in 2020 and legendary TV producer Norman Lear in 2021.

In the aftermath of worries over diversity at the HFPA (which at the time had no Black members) and other problems of accountability, the Globes were boycotted by talent, media, and creatives last year, and they didn’t appear on NBC. As a result, no laureate was announced.

The producer chose Ryan Murphy at a time when he is enjoying the popularity of “Dahmer – Monster” and another of his recent Netflix shows, “The Watcher.” Along with “9-1-1” and its spinoff “9-1-1: Lone Star” at Fox, Murphy continues to run a television empire that includes the series “American Horror Story,” “American Crime Story,” “Feud,” and “American Horror Stories.”

The largest LGBTQ cast for a written series and the largest transgender series regular cast were both present in Murphy’s FX drama Pose, which made history. The Politician, Ratched, The Andy Warhol Diaries, The Watcher, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, The Boys in the Band on Broadway, and The Normal Heart on television are just a few of the numerous works to which he has been credited.

After being off the air for a year due to a scandal involving the parent company of the Globes, the Golden Globes event will resume in 2023. HFPA had a makeover as a consequence, a new voting class was added, and its prior PR agency, Sunshine Sachs, cut ties with the group.

The event, which will be placed on January 10 and will be hosted by comedian Jerrod Carmichael, will be broadcast live across the country on NBC and its streaming service Peacock at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET from the Beverly Hilton Hotel. On Monday, the nominations were made public.

Eldridge Industries is the owner of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which organizes the Golden Globes. PME Holdings, LLC, a partnership between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge, is the company that owns The Hollywood Reporter.
