Recently, Netflix executive Peter Friedlander explained why it took so long to approve The Sandman Season 2.
In an interview with Variety, Friedlander the president of UCAN scripted TV at Netflix discussed the delay in the streaming giant’s approval of the second batch of Sandman episodes. Several months after the first season’s debut, in November 2022, Netflix formally announced that The Sandman will return for a second season. The Sandman’s ardent following, who worried that the show’s high viewership numbers wouldn’t be sufficient to warrant more seasons, was relieved by this good news. The Sandman’s future, however, came under further scrutiny in December 2022 after rumors that Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav was dissatisfied with the studio’s current Netflix partnerships. This contains The Sandman, a Warner Bros.-produced version of the same-named DC Comics series written by Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg.
Is the second season of The Sandman in danger?
But Gaiman quickly allayed these worries. The renowned author emphasized that The Sandman’s second season is safe in response to a fan on Twitter. Gaiman said that this was the case since no purported conflict between Netflix and Warner Bros. existed when the decision to proceed with The Sandman Season 2 was made. Whatever negotiations and backroom wrangling were necessary to make this a reality has already taken place. At this point, it’s unclear whether Zaslav’s alleged discontent with Netflix will have an impact on the next seasons of The Sandman.
Fans may anticipate The Sandman Season 2 in the interim. Gaiman is building anticipation for the episodes that are now in production by teasing the characters and stories they will adapt. To that aim, he recently declared that the second season would include the other Endless siblings of Delirium and Dream who were absent from Season 1.
