The show Minx was just cancelled by HBO Max, but that doesn’t mean it’s gone. Season 2 of Minx was first approved this past May, and filming has already started. But when HBO Max abruptly cancelled the show this week along with Love Life, many people were shocked. It’s unclear what the future holds for the series, which is set in the 1970s and revolves around the founding of the first pornographic magazine for women in history. Minx isn’t given up just yet, though.

Jake Johnson, who portrays the endearing and seasoned magazine publisher Doug, revealed on Instagram that Minx plans to continue production and find a new streaming service eager to carry the show after it was taken from HBO Max. The decision to look for a new opportunity to keep Minx alive appears to have been motivated by the intense backlash that the show’s cancellation drew. “I am eager to find a new platform for these episodes,” Johnson said in his post, which featured an image of him and fellow Minx star Ophelia Lovibond taken behind the scenes.

Minx is only one of the most recent shows to be removed from the HBO Max collection after Warner Bros. merged with Discovery. The unexpected cancellations were surprising, but David Zaslav, the new CEO of WB, justified the withdrawals as a way to find higher-quality content. The claims, however, seem a little hollow given that several series have been fully removed from their original streaming providers without much notice.

HBO Max is undoubtedly going through significant transformation, but it’s not the only one. The Discovery merger has resulted in a thorough reorganisation of the whole Warner Bros. lineup. Many DC Studios projects are undergoing modifications as a result of James Gunn’s appointment as CEO, and the future of films like Wonder Woman 3 is now in doubt.

It is hardly surprising that the studio restructuring has resulted in quiet initiatives like Minx being shelved along the road given that major projects are no longer viable. Other streaming services like Netflix and Prime Video might feel more appropriate for the subject matter of the programme, even though a family-friendly platform like Disney+ would never accept a series with the kind of nudity that Minx contains.
