Ellen Pompeo revealed the actual reason why she is quitting the venerable medical drama, even though it’s quite difficult to envision Grey’s Anatomy without her character Meredith Grey. In an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show on Tuesday, December 13, Ellen Pompeo was a guest. Honestly discussing her decision to leave ABC’s longest-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, the actress explained why.

Ellen has finally made the decision to leave Grey’s Anatomy after 19 seasons of portraying the illustrious Meredith Grey. The actress’ final episode is really scheduled to air on February 23, 2023. When discussing her decision to leave the show with Drew Barrymore, Ellen said, “I feel super happy, but listen, the show has been incredible to me and I’ve loved a lot of the experience.” She added, “Listen, it’s just, I gotta mix it up a little bit.”

The actress continued to speak and said, “I’m 53. My brain is like scrambled eggs. I gotta do something new or I’m literally gonna turn into like, you can’t do the New York Times crossword puzzle every single day. I mean, 19 years, that’s more than people keep their kids in their house, like people keep their kids in their house until they’re 18 and then they send them off to college. So this is like me like going away to college.” Ellen added, “I have a lot that I’m doing. I have three kids and so I take care of them, and it’s really important for me to be around for them and be more present for them.

The show’s creators recently revealed that Meredith Grey would continue to function as executive producer and narrate the programme, even if viewers might not get to see her much on screen. Pompeo said she is slated to star in and executive produce an 8-episode unnamed limited series about orphans for Hulu, which is based on a true tale, when asked about her intentions after Grey’s Anatomy.
