Call Me Chihiro is a forthcoming Japanese Netflix Original drama film written by Sawai Kaori and directed by Imaizumi Rikiya. The film is also an adaptation of author Yasuda Hiroyuki’s manga Chihiro-san. Imaizumi Rikiya, the director, has previously worked on films such as The Cat Escaped, Skeleton Flowers, and On the Street.

Netflix provided the following synopsis:

I’m confident you’ll want to meet her. Chihiro is a bento shop owner in a small seaside town and a former sex worker. She has a bad temper and moves at her own pace. She is now liberated. A girl like this is floating around the city. She is an unusual “adult.” But I’d like to meet her for some reason. An elementary school student waiting for her mother, a high school girl who can’t say what she truly feels, and a homeless man who doesn’t say much. Let’s go meet Chihiro to witness this marvel.

Who are the Call Me Chihiro cast members?

Arimura Kasumi, a Japanese actress, plays the lead role of Chihiro. Some Netflix subscribers may recognise Kasumi from the live-action Rurouni Kenshin films, The Beginning and The Final, where she played Yukishiro Tomoe. Kasumi has appeared in a variety of dramas and films outside of Netflix, including live-action adaptations of Erased, I Am a Hero, and March Comes in Like a Lion.
Seo Kuniko will be played by Toyoshima Hana in a supporting role. Hana’s Netflix debut will be Call Me Chihiro. Aside from Netflix, the actress has appeared in a number of supporting roles in films and Japanese dramas.

Utsumi will be played by Lily Franky in a supporting role. Franky previously played Takei Michiro in both seasons of The Naked Director. Fubuki Jun has been cast as Tae’s supporting actor. She previously played Pinako Rockbell in the live-action adaptations of the Full Metal Alchemist films Revenge Scar and Final Transmutation.
Shimada Tetta, Hirata Mitsuru, Negishi Toshie, Wakaba Ryuya, Sakuma Yui, Nagasawa Itsuki, Suzuki Keiichi, and Ichikawa Miwako round out the supporting cast.

According to some of the promotional material released by Netflix, Call Me Chihiro will be available on Netflix on Thursday, February 23rd, 2023. The film’s runtime has been confirmed to be 131 minutes.
