When it comes to drawing in viewers in the UK, the dysfunctional goths dominate the conflict between the Windsor and Addams families.

The first episode of Wednesday, Tim Burton’s take on Charles Addams’ legendary Addams Family creation, easily outperformed the premiere episodes of season five of The Crown on Netflix, according to official rating data.

According to Barb, a UK television rating organization, 3.73 million people watched the Wednesday premiere. This meant that it made it into the top 50 most-watched programs in Britain, a record that The Crown could not do despite its premiere being covered extensively in the local media.

The daytime World Cup games and episodes of the British soap operas Emmerdale and EastEnders were beaten out by Wednesday, which came in at number 38 on the list of the top 50 programs for the seven days leading up to November 27.

The first two episodes of The Crown drew 2.81 million and 2.87 million viewers, falling short of Wednesday’s viewership by over a million.

Wednesday, after Stranger Things 4 and Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is the third most watched English-language TV show on Netflix, according to data released last week.

The number of viewing hours for Wednesday since its debut on November 16 is 752.52. Within 60 days of release, more than 1 billion hours of Stranger Things and Dahmer were watched.
