As a result of her return song from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, “Lift Me,” the pop sensation has been nominated for a Golden Globe for best original song. However, she has tough competition from Lady Gaga, who is going for her third Globe with “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick, and Taylor Swift, who is up for her first award after receiving her fourth nomination in her career.

On Monday, the Grammy-winning artists received nominations for their best original song works. Ryan Coogler, Ludwig Göransson, Terms, and the director of Black Panther, Ryan Coogler, are all nominated alongside Rihanna. Gaga is nominated for “Hold My Hand” with regular collaborator BloodPop. Gaga had already taken home awards for best original song for “Shallow” from A Star Is Born and best actress in a miniseries or motion picture made for television for her work in American Horror Story: Hotel on FX in 2016. Swift, who is the only author of “Carolina” from Where the Crawdads Sing, has also received nominations for “Beautiful Ghosts” from Cats, “Sweeter Than Fiction” from One Chance, and “Safe & Sound” from The Hunger Games for best original songs.

The action drama RRR’s “Naatu Naatu,” a song in the Indian language of Telugu composed by M. M. Keeravani, and “Ciao Papa,” written by Guillermo del Toro, Alexandre Desplat, and Roeban Katz, all of whom received nominations, round out the five candidates.

Desplat is a double nomination since, as the man responsible for Pinocchio’s soundtrack, he is also up for best original music.

However, Hildur Gudnadóttir may create further history by winning the category’s second Golden Globe. The Icelandic cellist with classical training is nominated for scoring Women Talking and made history at the 2020 Globes by being the first woman to win the best original score for Joker in 19 years. Gudnadóttir has also won an Emmy, a Grammy, and an Oscar. She accomplished this in months owing to her work on Joker and the HBO miniseries Chernobyl.

Other contenders for best original score include Carter Burwell for Banshees of Inisherin, John Williams for The Fabelmans, and Justin Hurwitz for Babylon. On January 10, 2023, NBC will broadcast live coverage of the Golden Globes.
