Julie Andrews is putting the record straight about her participation in the third Princess Diaries movie. In the first two movies, the actor plays Queen Clarisse Renaldi, the grandmother of Anne Hathaway’s Mia Thermopolis. Garry Marshall directed Andrews and Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries, which was first released in 2001. Mia Thermopolis, the protagonist of the coming-of-age comedy, is the main character in the well-known Meg Cabot novel series.

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Julie told, “I think we know that it’s probably not going to be possible. It was talked about very shortly after two came out, but it’s now how many years since then? And I am that much older and Annie the princess, or queen, is so much older. And I am not sure where it would float or run,” she said. “In terms of us doing it, I doubt that now,” she added.

In 2004, “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement” was released, with Andrews and Hathaway repeating their respective parts. Since the sequel’s release 18 years ago, Andrews doesn’t appear very interested in picking up the series again. Although the third movie’s specifics are not yet revealed, it is assumed that the plot will continue from the previous two. Earlier this year, Hathaway revealed her desire to direct a follow-up to The Princess Diaries and offered a way to get Andrews back as well.

Aadrita Mukerji is reportedly penning the script for a new Princess Diaries installment for Disney, with Debra Martin Chase serving as producer and Melissa K. Stack serving as executive producer. The movie being marketed as a continuation of the series of movies rather than a reboot, according to sources. Anne has stated her support for the third movie and stated that she would be thrilled to return for a second Princess Diaries movie if Julie could join her.
