With the season 2 finale of The White Lotus airing on Sunday, series creator Mike White is already thinking of something for next season. It was officially renewed for a third season by HBO in November, shortly after the season began streaming. And the new season could be scheduled in Asia.
Even before the second season premiered, Mike revealed that the new season would be set in a different country, with the first, which premiered in July 2021, taking place on the Big Island of Hawaii, where the Four Seasons Taken in his Maui. The second season was set in Italy and filmed at the Four Seasons Hotel in San Domenico. The writer and creator said in an interview, “I think it would be interesting to go to a completely different continent. I know we’ve done Europe and maybe Asia.
In a recap video about the show’s ending, Unpacking S2 E7, Mike went into detail about the main character’s death and why. He also shared the direction the show could take next. Mike said, “The first season was about money, the second was about sex. I think it’s a satirical and funny look at religion and spirituality. I feel like giving White Lotus another try would be a rich tapestry. ”
The second season of The White Lotus starred only her two actors from the first series, Jennifer Coolidge and Jon Gries. It remains to be seen if anyone of this season will continue into the next round. Possible filming locations for Season 3 have been mentioned online and include Japan and Thailand. The Season 2 characters have also hinted at a reunion in another exotic location in the Maldives. The White Lotus won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Series or Anthology Series in September. Mike won two Emmy Awards for Best Original Screenplay and Best Director, while popular actress Jennifer won Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of the eccentric Tanya.
