Wonder Woman 3 is supposedly no longer progressing at DC Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter. For the third film in the series, Patty Jenkins, who directed the first two parts, would have joined Gal Gadot as the lead. Currently, the sequel’s failure to follow the new guidelines established by James Gunn and Peter Safran, co-chairs of DC Studios, is being cited as the reason for the cancellation.
After taking over on November 1 at the newly renamed DC Studios, Gunn and Safran appear to have gone on a retreat to consider their plans for the future of the Warners-owned comic book industry. They are now prepared to begin communicating their intentions to creators and studio executives. That does not appear to include Jenkins and Gal Gadot’s portrayal of Wonder Woman, at least not in the way Jenkins and Geoff Johns had intended. Gadot won’t necessarily don the heroic costume again, but Gunn and Safran seem to be moving away from the Zack Snyder-created cast of characters.
There have been rumours about Gunn’s plans for DC Studios after he recently shared a picture on social media that teased the infamous Kingdom Come comic book plot. The anticipation for CCXP’s upcoming film Blue Beetle has also been rekindled by recently released promotional materials for the film. Trying to establish their cinematic blueprint amidst the numerous projects already in development will undoubtedly be a difficult challenge for Gunn and Safran.
Gal Gadot also pays tribute to her nine years as Wonder Woman on screen. Nine years have passed since the actress made her official debut as the DC superhero in the 2016 movie Batman v. Superman. In a social media post, Gadot shared a photo of herself dressed as the character she would play in the 2017 and 2020 standalone Wonder Woman movies. Gal Gadot thanked her Instagram fans for their support during that time and gave them a preview of what the Themyscira warrior’s future holds.
