Actor Henry Cavill could have to wait a little longer to portray “Superman,” as “Man of Steel” producers aren’t considering the follow-up. According to media rumors, “Man of Steel 2” is not in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s plans for the DC Universe.

Several rumors claimed that the studio would be completely abandoning Cavill’s Superman sequel. According to a story in The Hollywood Reporter, DC Studios is discussing internally whether to keep Cavill’s earlier-than-expected Superman appearance in the upcoming The Flash movie. For the Dwayne Johnson movie “Black Adam,” in which the “Rock” plays the title role, Cavill performed a similar cameo.

Cavill had announced on Instagram that he will be coming back as the Big Blue Boy Scout for the DC Universe films after the release of “Black Adam” in October. Later sources supported the news and stated that Andy Muschietti may write the “Man of Steel” (2013) sequel, which Warner Bros. was reportedly working on. But nothing has worked out.

According to several sources from November, Cavill’s appearance in the Black Adam movie was not wanted by Warner Bros.’ previous management. However, Cavill’s comeback was assured by Dwayne Johnson’s advocacy and the new management that emerged following the Discovery merger. Warner Bros. had already come under fire from The Rock for neglecting Cavill following “Justice League” (2017).

And now, just before Gunn and Safran are about to meet with David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, the rumors of Man of Steel 2 not happening have returned. Henry Cavill stated his openness to speak with James Gunn on the direction of the DC Universe last month. He had lauded Gunn for his brilliance and expressed a desire to sit down and talk with him for a while.
