The next project for two creators with overall deals will be a new limited series on Netflix called American Primeval. Here is what we currently know about the project.
The Friday Night Lights collaborator Pete Berg, Eric Newman (The Watcher), and Mark L. Smith’s American Primeval will include the Waco star as its lead (The Revenant).
Following the formal announcement, in which we learnt that the limited series will have six episodes, Netflix released a full synopsis, which is as follows:
“American Primeval is a raw, daring examination of the American West’s first days. As men and women struggle and die for control of this new globe – for a land they genuinely feel is their destiny – there will be deadly clashes between cultures, religions, and groups. The group narrates a tale about the price everyone must pay when they decide to venture into a wild and dangerous wilderness.
Who is behind the Netflix series American Primeval?
Grand Electric and Peter Berg’s Film 44 are working together on the project. Both are covered by Netflix’s overall contracts, and they previously collaborated on the upcoming limited series Painkiller. It has been confirmed that Peter Berg will serve as the series’ sole director, with Eric Newman serving as producer.
In March 2021, Berg and Film 44 agreed to a deal whereby he would produce and direct new films and television shows for the streaming service. He has so far given Spenser Confidential. After three years, that agreement is anticipated to expire in the early months of 2023.
In addition, Berg was an executive producer on the cancelled The Green Beret’s Guide to Surviving the Apocalypse series and is currently the pilot director for the limited series Painkiller.
Who will play the lead roles in American Primeval?
Taylor Kitsch was announced to lead the cast alongside the initial announcement on December 6th.
Kitsch is best known for his roles as Remy LeBeau in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, John Carter in Disney’s John Carter, and Tim Riggins in NBC’s Friday Night Lights. He ranks in the top 1000 stars on IMDb’s STARmeter. In 2023, he’ll also appear in Netflix’s Painkiller.
Kitsch will play Isaac, a traumatised man trying to overcome his demons and find a reason to live in this harsh and punishing world.
According to two sources, the limited series will begin filming in New Mexico, United States, as early as February 2023.
Through Grand Electric, Eric Newman has contributed to numerous Netflix productions throughout the years, and there will be more. He originally made his agreement in 2020, and it is scheduled to expire at the end of current year.
Other Netflix projects by Newman include Griselda, Rebel Moon, and The Upper World.
The Midnight Sky, The Revenant, and Overlord are just a few of the Netflix productions that Mark L. Smith will write for and executive produce.
The casting director for the upcoming show is Rachel Tenner. The cinematographer/director of photography will be Armando Salas.
