Jenna Ortega of Wednesday recently disclosed that she recorded the famous dance scene for the Netflix supernatural comedy-horror series while suffering from COVID-19.
In an interview with NME, Ortega stated that she tested positive for COVID-19 after filming the scene. “It’s absurd because it was my first day with COVID, which made filming difficult. I woke up with bodily aches, which is strange because I seldom ever get sick, and when I do, it’s not particularly awful “She spoke. “After being struck by a car, a small goblin was let loose in my throat, and it felt like it had scratched my esophagus.”
In response to Ortega’s remarks, Wednesday’s production firm MGM insisted that “strict COVID processes” had been followed throughout filming. Ortega was reportedly kicked off the Wednesday set as soon as she got her positive test result. In contrast, Ortega is more concerned with the quality of the sequence itself, which alludes to the dance choreography of vintage films, TV shows, and music videos, than she does with any potential controversy around her work while exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.
Latin Representation on Wednesday Star
Given how devoted to the show Ortega is, it is not surprising that she wants to polish Wednesday’s dance routine. The actress recently discussed what it meant to her to portray Wednesday in an Addams Family episode that celebrated the character’s Latin roots, calling the experience “unique.” She also mentioned how there was no equivalent representation on television when she was a child. To make myself look more like Cinderella, I requested my mother for a tube of blonde hair dye for my fifth birthday, Ortega recalled. “It can be quite discouraging if you don’t have someone that you can relate to.”
If showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar get their way, Ortega will likely receive more screen time to highlight Wednesday’s origins. If Netflix approves further episodes for the series, Gough and Millar said that they have already planned out the plots for three or four additional seasons of Wednesday.
