With a new TARDIS photo, Doctor Who Season 14 announces the start of filming

1 Doctor Who The Power of the Doctor

With the release of a brand-new image of the TARDIS, the Doctor’s renowned time-traveling spaceship, Doctor Who just revealed that Season 14 has officially begun filming.

The official Doctor Who Twitter account has made the announcement. It includes a brief message stating that filming for the sci-fi show’s fourteenth season has begun and a picture of the blue Police Box doors of the TARDIS. The name of the director, Dylan Holmes Williams, and the date of the shoot are displayed on a brand-named clapperboard, along with the fields for “scene,” “slate,” and “number,” all of which are denoted with one. It appears that the square of black tape on the right side of the clapperboard has obscured the episode title, making it impossible to see it.

Whatever the Doctor’s upcoming adventure title, one thing is certain: David Tennant will be operating the TARDIS. In the final Doctor Who 2022 special, “The Power of the Doctor,” the Scottish actor who had previously played the tenth iteration of the Doctor made a comeback. Fans who were anticipating Sex Education actor Ncuti Gatwa to appear instead were shocked when Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor, who is playing the character, regenerates into Tennant in the episode. Tennant and Gatwa have since been designated as the Fourteenth Doctor and the Fifteenth Doctor, respectively, by incoming Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies.

The Thirteenth Doctor’s closing piece of conversation in “Power of the Doctor” was not what Davies originally wrote, according to Davies’ immediate predecessor Chris Chibnall, who also commented on the conclusion. Chibnall clarified that Whittaker intended to signal her employment’s conclusion by stating, “The only sad thing is that, I see. What happens after that intrigues me. It’s going to be fantastic, I bet.” This was supposed to be a reference to the Thirteenth Doctor’s debut, where she reveled in her new female form. Whittaker’s final line was changed to: “Right then, Doctor-whoever-I’m-about-to-be: tag, you’re it!” after editor Becky Trotman persuaded Chibnall to rearrange the monologue.

Whittaker then handed the reins over to Tennant, who recently said that he was initially worried he wouldn’t be able to “get into the flow” of portraying the Doctor once more. Tennant continued by saying that his Doctor Who comeback has been a “straightforward” procedure so far and that these anxieties turned out to be unwarranted.

In November 2023, Doctor Who will return for a three-episode arc on BBC and BBC America.
