Harley and Poison Ivy’s DC Universe romance is still a priority for Margot Robbie

In the DC Universe, Margot Robbie is still pushing for a romance between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. Due to the strong reception to her performance as the villain in the 2016 movie Suicide Squad, Robbie was allowed to star in her movie, Birds of Prey, in 2020. Robbie’s Quinn was transformed in the film into a lighter, stronger, more independent character, more in line with how she frequently appears in the comics, shifting away from the darker, damsel-in-distress tone that she had adopted in Suicide Squad. Poison Ivy, a different bad guy from the Batman universe, coexists with Harley’s comic book counterpart and eventually dates Harley in both the comic books and the animated TV series Harley Quinn.

Robbie claims that she has “been pushing” for a Harley and Ivy relationship for years in an interview with ComicBook.com. This is a reiteration of what Robbie has been saying since 2018. Additionally, Robbie claims that when she imagines her Harley and Ivy together, she envisions Poison Ivy from the comics rather than a specific actor. The complete comment from Robbie is below:

“I have been pushing for that for years. I cannot tell you how hard I’ve been pushing for that. I want it too. Honestly, when I pictured, I always picture like Poison Ivy in the comics. I don’t really actually picture an actress doing it, but I agree, that would be so good.”

Who Would Be Poison Ivy in The DC Universe?

Harley and Poison Ivy's DC Universe romance is still a priority for Margot Robbie 2

Ivy’s inclusion in the DC Universe has been pushed for years by both Cathy Yan, the director of Birds of Prey, and Robbie. Yan agreed with Robbie that she “would want to explore the relationship between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy,” and she expressed a desire to have Ivy appear in any prospective Birds of Prey sequels. Robbie had already expressed her want to learn more about Harley and Ivy’s connection, whether it be a close friendship or something more, but it now appears that she is excitedly anticipating the two of them falling in love.

Although Poison Ivy hasn’t yet joined the DC Universe and no actress has been chosen to play the character, DC fans have been very outspoken about their preferences. Emma Stone, Christina Hendricks, and Karen Gillan are among the leading candidates. However, some fans would prefer to see a different actress play the role; they have recommended Jodie Comer, Ana de Armas, and Teyonah Parris, a former cast member of WandaVision. Robbie, Yan, and DC fans are clamoring for Poison Ivy to make her DC Universe debut, so it’s certainly feasible that the villain may show up in the movies, especially with James Gunn running the show now that he has given Harley a fleeting love story in The Suicide Squad.

What DCU locations will Robbie’s Harley appear in next

While Robbie hasn’t been confirmed to feature in any DC Universe movies just yet, Harley’s destiny was left out in the air by 2021 The Suicide Squad. Fans had hoped Harley and Batgirl would cross paths, but Batgirl’s cancellation has left them in the dark. Given her connections to John Cena’s eponymous character, some are expecting a Harley cameo in The Flash and Peacemaker season 2, while others are looking forward to a Birds of Prey sequel or perhaps a live-action Harley Quinn HBO Max series. Robbie is still as ready as ever to portray the Cupid of Crime, possibly alongside a future floral love interest, even if it’s still unclear when Harley will return to the DC Universe.
