In 2024, the movie “Mickey 17,” directed by Oscar winner Bong Joon Ho and starring Robert Pattinson, will be released in cinemas. On March 29, 2024, the Warner Bros. film, now under development, will make its theatrical premiere.

The science fiction story is based on a novel by Edward Ashton, which St. Martin Press describes as a high-concept intellectual thriller in the vein of “The Martian” and “Dark Matter.” Pattinson will portray an “expendable” who refuses to let his replacement clone take his place on a human expedition going to conquer the ice world Niflheim. The cast also features Toni Collette, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, and Mark Ruffalo in addition to Pattinson.

There is no information about the movie’s plot, and it is unclear how closely Bong intends to follow the original work. The book by Ashton was released in February 2022. Through his firm Offscreen, Bong will produce the future movie in addition to writing and directing it. Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Dooho Choi of Plan B and Kate Street Pictures are additional producers. Warner Bros. representative Peter Dodd will be in charge of this.

“Mickey 7” is Bong’s first film since “Parasite,” the highest-grossing South Korean film ever, and the first movie filmed in a language other than English to win the Best Picture Oscar. The twisted black comedy won awards for original screenplay, director, and foreign feature out of its six Academy Award nominations. Before “Parasite,” Bong worked on the critically acclaimed films “Snowpiercer,” “The Host,” “Okja,” and “Barking Dogs Never Bite.”

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, the “Mad Max” spinoff “Furiosa,” starring Anya Taylor-Joy, and “Joker: Folie à Deux” are just a few of Warner Bros.’ high-profile 2024 releases.
