Continued Johnny Depp Defamation Case Scandal, New Appeal by Amber Heard

The Johnny Depp libel case has been in the news throughout 2022. Hollywood heavyweights Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were entangled in a defamation dispute that had attracted considerable media attention. According to a story published on Sunday by the New York Post, actress Amber Heard, well known for her work in the films “Aquaman” and “Drive Angry,” is now pursuing a new defamation case against the actor. The 36-year-old actress filed an appeal earlier this month, asserting that the odds were “stacked against her” in the court case she lost.

In the most recent court appeal, Heard’s new attorneys repeatedly alleged that the trials were “unfair.” Johnny Depp, star of “Pirates of the Caribbean,” won the case and received $10.35 million in June. Depp prevailed in the defamation case when it was established that Heard’s assertions in an opinion piece for the Washington Post were false. I read in her opinion piece that she had experienced domestic violence while she was married to Depp.

Additionally, Heard’s attorneys contested the legitimacy of the Virginia trials.

Heard’s attorneys claimed in the most recent 68-page court records that the “unfair verdict” was caused by the removal of Heard’s “therapy notes,” in which she wrote about the abuse. Judge Penney Azcarate of the Virginia Court rejected Heard’s notes as hearsay during the Fairfax County trials.

The Virginia trials were also questioned by Heard’s attorneys, who said that “the case should never have gone to trial because another court had previously decided that Depp had assaulted Heard on several occasions.” Here, Heard’s attorneys referred to the favorable 2020 UK court decision for her.

The one count of defamation that Heard won at trial, according to earlier reports, was “erroneous,” according to Depp, who has filed his appeal. Now, a panel of judges will rule on both cases, and each side will have one more opportunity to appeal the decision. The decision will have a “chilling effect on women seeking to speak up against the strong males,” according to a document supplied by Heard’s attorney.
