The newest addition to Netflix’s ambitious lineup of fantasy TV and movies is the new God Country feature film, which is based on the same-named comic book series. God Country will be directed by Jim Mickle, who also co-created and created the hit Netflix series Sweet Tooth.
This was first announced in December 2021. Along with one of the original comic book authors, Donny Cates, he is also co-writing the movie script. God Country will be the next in a line of projects that Netflix and Legendary Entertainment have worked on together, including Enola Homles, its follow-up, and the future live-action Gundam film.
Together with Legendary Entertainment, AfterShock Media is also participating in the planned film adaptation. AfterShock CEO Jon Kramer expressed his excitement about Netflix joining forces with Legendary Entertainment and AfterShock Media to produce the movie adaptation of “God Country.” Along with The Old Guard and Nocterra, God Country is one of many Image Comics getting adaptations at Netflix. Here is everything else we know about God Country on Netflix.
What’s the God Country story?
God Country on Netflix is a feature film that is based on the Geoff Shaw, Donny Cates, and Jason Wordie-written comic book series of the same name. The tagline for the God Country comic book series is as follows:
Old widower Emmet Quinlan, who is agitated by dementia, is more of a problem for his kids than for the local police because of his violent outbursts. Quinlan emerges from the rubble after a tornado destroys his home and the nearby West Texas town. But he receives more than just a sound mind and body from the enchanted sword at the centre of the storm. He is now the only man capable of fending off the supernatural beings that the sword has attracted to Texas.
Who is in the cast of God Country?
No cast members are known to be attached to Netflix’s God Country as of December 2022, but because the film is in pre-production, we expect to hear casting news very soon.
When will God Country be available on Netflix?
God Country for Netflix is currently in pre-production and is scheduled to begin shooting in the fall of 2023. That date is not set in stone and is still subject to change because it is so far off.
God Country’s release date hasn’t been announced by Netflix, but given that filming is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2023, we can probably anticipate it to appear on the service by the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025.
