After filming Titanic, James Cameron claimed that actress Kate Winslet was “a bit traumatized.” In James Cameron’s blockbuster epic romance, in which she co-starred with Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet received an Oscar nomination for her performance as Rose. Avatar: The Way of Water, the eagerly anticipated follow-up to the 2009 film Avatar, will reunite James Cameron and Kate Winslet once more.

Given that Kate previously expressed her uncertainty about working with James again, stating that there was too much pressure while filming Titanic and that she was “genuinely terrified” of him, it is a surprise that the actor has re-teamed with the director. James acknowledged that the 22-year-old actor’s task of filming Titanic was in fact much more challenging at the time.

In an interview with Radio Times, James stated, “I think Kate came out of Titanic a bit traumatised by the scale of the production and her responsibility within it… We’ve both been eager over time to work together again, to see what the other is about at this point in our lives and careers.” He continued, “She’s very large and in charge on set. You’d swear she was producing the film!’ The director was quick to admit that he was indeed quite different on that set, and with the years he is “a lot more mellow now.”

Winslet also talked about her time working on Avatar 2 and her experience holding her breath underwater for seven minutes, warning listeners not to try it at home. After more than 20 years apart, Kate Winslet and James Cameron reconnected for Avatar: The Way of Water. Their previous collaboration was on the hugely successful Titanic, which launched Winslet to stardom. Avatar: The Way of Water, which also stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, and Stephen Lang, hits theatres on December 16.
