When Michael Gandolfini was chosen to play a young Tony Soprano in the fall’s The Many Saints of Newark, he had enormous shoes to fill. The upcoming star had to not only match James Gandolfini’s magnificent, commanding, impeccably lived-in performance—which won him an Emmy—but also establish himself in his own right, especially with his first leading role. Thankfully, the performer exceeded expectations, indicating a captivating, promising future for the budding star. However, since that potentially career-launching performance, Gandolfini has received several noteworthy supporting roles in several intriguing new films, including Cat Person, Landscape with Invisible Hand by Cory Finely, and Disappointment Blvd. by Ari Aster. However, he has now hit a large bullseye. Gandolfini has joined Marvel’s newest Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again, which will have Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio reprising their respective roles as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, as it was previously reported earlier today.

Gandolfini’s part in Daredevil: Born Again is a mystery, according to Deadline, although the magazine theorizes that he would portray an ambitious young hotshot from Staten Island. But until the start of the show’s development or its Disney+ debut, we won’t have any confirmation. In any case, Gandolfini should have a significant supporting role. Especially considering that he is one of the first cast members to have been announced since the show’s launch earlier this year.

The 18-episode season of Daredevil: Born Again, from Covert Affairs writers Matt Corman and Chris Ord, is set to begin airing in 2024 and take up some time after the events of their acclaimed Netflix series. This new continuing series will undoubtedly be a greater project than past Marvel shows on Disney+ (which is saying something), and it will probably be one of the most anticipated to boot, considering the number of episodes in this season. Hopefully, Born Again will let Gandolfini’s burgeoning reputation shine ever brighter as the young actor forges his own and establishes himself free from his father’s shadow.

We’ll undoubtedly continue to learn more information about this intriguing new Marvel continuation as casting goes on and production approaches.
