In Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings film trilogy, Bernard Hill played King Théoden of Rohan. He has little interest in Amazon’s The Rings of Power prequel series.

During a Metro interview, Hill was questioned about seeing Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which made its Amazon Prime Video debut in September. The actor responded right away with dismissal. Not interested, please. I don’t want to watch it or participate in it since it’s a business venture. Wishing them luck and all that, but it’s not the real deal,” Hill added. The next question was whether he thought the franchise ought to have ended after the first three films. “Unquestionably, yeah. When they produced The Hobbit, I believe they were pushing it. When they produced The Hobbit, I believe they were pushing it. The Hobbit is a very small book. They executed it excellently, really, very excellently. They made it bigger, but I believe an elastic band can only be stretched so far.

The Rings of Power is not based on any specific J. R. R. Tolkien works, in contrast to the original Lord of the Rings trilogy or The Hobbit trilogy. It is a unique tale that incorporates details from the author’s intricate history of Middle-earth, incorporating occasions and people from appendices and books like The Silmarillion. The series, which centers on the Elves’ battles with the evil Morgoth, is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth (the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, for comparison, are set in the Third Age). The birth of the Rings of Power and the rise of Sauron, the giant evil eye who sought to rule Middle-earth in the original books, are eventually covered by the television series.

With 25 million views in the first 24 hours, The Rings of Power had an exceptionally strong opening. Even though viewership steadily declined during the season as a result of this being Amazon’s most-watched launch to date, the streaming service is moving forward with a second season that is presently in production. The showrunners, J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have stated that they would be considering audience feedback as Season 2 is being filmed, although most of the plot for that season was already planned out before the show even debuted.

In The Two Towers and Return of the King, Bernard Hill is perhaps most remembered for his portrayal of Théoden. After being freed from the control of his advisor, Grima, he first starts as a cruel monarch who treats Aragorn and his comrades coldly. Eventually, though, he turns into a crucial ally of the Fellowship. Hill is well-known for her roles in Titanic’s Captain Edward Smith, Clint Eastwood’s True Crime’s San Quentin Prison Warden, and Lord of the Rings.
